The Centre for Civil Society's Asia Livelihood Documentary Festival is pleased to announce that submissions are now being accepted for its Jeevika 2010. The Livelihood Freedom Campaign is founded on the principle that the quality of life is intrinsically related to the degree of livelihood and economic freedom. Thus the Centre for Civil Society (CCS) promotes public policy measures to clear the path for free enterprise and through research, advocacy and outreach activities shifts the terms of public debate in favor of removal of barriers for pursuit of an honest livelihood.
CCS and Centre for Public Policy Research conducted Livelihood regulations study aiming to document the livelihood regulations and entry level barriers in the informal sector. It was conducted in 63 cities across India with a purpose of unveiling laws applicable to entry-level professions like cycle-rickshaw pullers, mobile and stationery shopkeepers, street vendors, butchers and to document them with the effort to create public attention to issues faced by common poor citizen of India. The data collected can be accessed on the Livelihood Freedom Campaign website. As part of the campaign CCS organises JEEVIKA: Asia Documentary Festival since 2003. It aims at capturing the livelihood challenges faced by the rural and urban poor and bringing it to the attention of the public, media, judiciary, and most importantly, policy makers. Over the years, Jeevika has been successful in advocating for the cause of numerous small entrepreneurs, self employed, street vendors, sex-workers, child labours, farmers and forest-dwellers.
